Careers

Interesting networks. Sensible hours.

We run core networks for ISPs, operate Ireland’s internet exchange and build software used by exchanges worldwide. We’re a small team of senior people, and we look after each other.

Working here

We believe in a balanced life and don’t encourage long hours. If you’re not on call, then when you finish for the day you should be switched off until the next working day. We’re flexible about working from home, family commitments, hours that suit you, and avoiding the worst of the commute.

We work hard to avoid stress. There are no arbitrary deadlines, we deal with stressful situations before they escalate, and we step in early when it looks like a “situation” is brewing.

Our office is in Dublin city centre and we support remote working from anywhere in Ireland. We prefer Irish-resident staff for administrative simplicity, but we’re flexible for the right person.

Open roles

Network Engineer (mid to senior)Help us design, build and run the core and edge networks of ISPs, internet exchanges and critical-infrastructure operators.Dublin 2 / hybridDetails +

Our core business is building and managing core and edge networks, so we’re responsible for a significant number of autonomous systems. We’re looking for a network engineer to help us run them.

What you’ll do

  • Design, build and maintain our customers’ networks
  • Provide level-3 support to our customers and, sometimes, their customers
  • Take part in a 24/7 on-call rotation. Late-night work, from home, a customer site or a data centre, is occasionally needed, but rare
  • Visit customer sites and data centres from time to time
  • Help design solutions for our B2B customers’ own customers

What we use

We’re vendor-agnostic, so you’ll see Arista, Brocade, Cisco, Cumulus, Dell, Extreme Networks, HP, Mikrotik and white-box kit; SaltStack and NAPALM for automation; Nagios, SNMP, sFlow and NetFlow for monitoring; MPLS, BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, FHRP, VXLAN and STP; and active and passive DWDM. You don’t need experience with all of it. We’ll teach you.

What you need

  • Hands-on experience installing, configuring and maintaining network equipment
  • A solid grasp of IP (ICMP, UDP, TCP), filtering and firewalling, and standard services (DNS, HTTP, SMTP, DHCP)
  • Production experience of L3 networking, especially BGP and either IS-IS or OSPF
  • Some L2 switching and STP experience

Bonus points for multi-homed networks (multiple transit providers or an IXP connection), automation or programming, and an interest in the wider internet community (RIPE, INEX, UKNOF).

Always happy to hear from

No formal opening right now, but good people are hard to find. If one of these sounds like you, get in touch.

Systems Administrator

Linux (and some FreeBSD) estates running DNS, RADIUS, VoIP, databases and monitoring, managed with SaltStack.

We manage an estate of more than 200 Linux and FreeBSD servers that provide core internet services across our customers’ networks: DNS, NTP, FreeRADIUS, databases, VoIP, monitoring and more. They’re deployed in pairs or N+1 and managed with SaltStack, on Ubuntu LTS for the most part.

If you’re strong on the Linux command line, enjoy automation and care about backups that actually restore, we’d like to hear from you. You don’t need deep networking knowledge, but your colleagues will happily teach you BGP and IPv6 if you’re curious.

PHP Developer (IXP Manager)

Work on the open-source platform that runs 270 internet exchanges worldwide. Laravel, PHP 8, MySQL, Tailwind.

IXP Manager is the free, open-source platform behind 270 internet exchanges worldwide. Our developers build and maintain it in Laravel, PHP 8, MySQL and Tailwind, with a strong focus on security and test coverage, working closely with the network operators who use it.

If you’re an experienced PHP developer with an interest in internet infrastructure or open source, get in touch. No networking knowledge needed, we’ll teach you.
